Virginia Young Democrats Celebrate Opening Of Affordable Healthcare Exchanges

Richmond, VA – September 30, 2013 – News Release –Tomorrow, the Virginia Young Democrats will celebrate the opening of the healthcare exchanges under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 27 million Americans will use these exchanges by 2018 to purchase affordable and competitive health insurance.

“These new exchanges will offer access to affordable and competitive healthcare for thousands of Virginians, especially young professionals that are unable to purchase insurance through their employer,” said Gonzalo Aida, president of the Virginia Young Democrats. “More than 840,000 Virginians are currently uninsured and these exchanges will offer access to coverage at a reasonable price.”

The Virginia Young Democrats stand with the Affordable Care Act and look forward to its full implementation.

“If Virginians knew more about the law like that 3 million Virginians can no longer be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition, including nearly 500,000 children, we’d have near universal support for the law,” said Andrew Goodwin, the Health Policy Caucus Chair of the Virginia Young Democrats.
